How We Think About Stargazing
Everything at Eadsy Astronomy is built on three beliefs: that the universe should feel accessible, that curiosity deserves a real answer, and that genuine wonder, the kind that actually stops you in your tracks, is worth chasing every single time.
I've met a lot of people who assume stargazing isn't for them. Maybe they tried once and got confused by the equipment. Maybe they figured you had to drive four hours into the desert to see anything worthwhile. Maybe they just never had someone take the time to actually explain what they were looking at. That's exactly the gap I set out to close.
Every tour I lead is built around conversation. I don't just aim the scope and step back, I tell you what we're looking at, what it means, how far the light has traveled to reach your eye. Whether you've never touched a telescope or you're already shooting your own astrophotography, I'll meet you exactly where you are. No jargon. No intimidation. Just sky.

Meet Your Guide Jay
My journey into amateur astronomy began as a child. My father purchased a Tasco Zoom telescope during the Apollo period in the early 1970's. We would observe the moon together in the backyard. This started my interest in astronomy which my father fueled by giving me books on the subject.
Later, as I grew older, I got into backpacking in the Sierra Nevada and on the three or four trips I made with friends as a teenager, I can vividly remember what it was like to look up at night, as I slept under the stars, looking at the Milky Way. It was during this time that I taught myself to identify the constellations by using a planisphere.
As I became an adult, I maintained my interest in astronomy though I pursued other careers in business and in education. When I became a sixth grade teacher, the Clark Planetarium had a program that allowed a teacher and students to attend a seven day workshop. In the workshop we learned the constellations, how to star hop, and how to use an Orion telescope, a dobsonian what was called a XT6 or XT8 or a 6 inch and a 8 inch telescope. I went through this with 6 students and at the end of the workshop we each received a telescope.
From here we organized an astronomy club and we met once a week after school for 40 minutes. There we learned more about using our telescopes, about the various types of objects to observe including the Moon and craters on it, galaxies, nebulae and star clusters. The highlight in the spring of the school year was that the astronomy club put on a star party for their families. For the next five years this routine repeated until funding was pulled by the State for funding the workshops and telescopes.
Leading this group of students really cemented one thing I firmly believe. That as great as it is to show the night sky to others, the best is when they feel comfortable using the equipment to see the night sky for themselves. My purpose with Eadsy Astronomy is thus two fold. First, to introduce the night sky and all the wonders it holds to those interested in viewing and learning. Second, is to allow those that are interested to learn how to use the variety of telescopes and equipment to determine how they would like to explore the night sky for themselves.
For the last 26 years now, I have been an amateur astronomer and have been very active in the hobby since 2009. I have mentored and assisted over 22 individuals in exploring and learning to love the night sky. I have shown hundreds the night sky and the wonders there and try on a regular basis to share astronomy news and information on both my Paetron, Eadsy Astronomy and on my Blog. I look forward to introducing hundreds more to the night sky and in helping others to learn how to explore the night sky.

Astronomy connects us to not only the universe but to each other. It is magical to be out in the West Desert as twilight and then night comes on. We leave behind the day to day stresses and complexities of our modern, daily life, and are reminded that we are connected by the very stars we observe! Our past doesn't matter in that moment, nor does our future. For that moment, we live and exist and can enjoy the wonders of the Universe in which we have our being. It truly is magical.
